Featuring the distinctive Domus armrests, and with a seat and backrest made out of a single plywood element, the Domus Lounge Chair is exceedingly comfortable. In 1946, designer Ilmari Tapiovaara and his wife Annikki won the commission to design the interior of the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki. Confident that functionalism would promote social equality, Tapiovaara created the Domus Lounge Chair as part of a series of furniture for the students. Over time, the Domus Lounge Chair’s popularity has extended far beyond the location for which it was first intended.
